Watch: Drones Deliver Food To Stranded Dogs As La Palma Volcano Continues To Erupt In Spain

For the past month, La Palma volcano in Spain has been erupting, necessitating the evacuation of thousands of people as lava flows towards the sea and destroys everything in its path.
Sadly, many pets have been left abandoned, trapped in walled-off yards that are now covered in ash without access to food or water. Due to complications caused by the surrounding lava flow, reaching the hungry pups was impossible - until two local companies stepped in with life-saving drones, The Telegraph reported.
The two firms, Ticom Soluciones and Volcanic Life, have employed drones to provide food and water to the dogs, and the companies claim they will continue to do so as long as the weather permits.
On its way to the Atlantic Ocean, the lava has spared a few areas by creating islands of terrain that remain relatively unharmed, such as the spot where the dogs are.
In the latest development, a drone company called Aerocamaras has now received permission to attempt a rescue, using a large drone equipped with a net too, they hope, airlift a group of starving dogs to safety.
Drones are the best option in such circumstances because the dogs are completely cut off by lava, and helicopters cannot fly in the area because of the risk of volcanic gas and ash, The Guardian reported.
In Spain, it's illegal to transport live animals by drone, so special permits were necessary for Aerocamaras to even try this. The good news is that those permits have been granted, and Aerocamaras is currently testing the drone and net system at the launch site.
The success of the mission will depend largely on how the dogs respond to the drone. It should help that the dogs are already familiar with drones and have been associating them with food, but the drone can't lift two dogs at once, so the key is to get them just interested enough to enable the rescue of one at a time.
