The scam began when a fraudster, dressed in what appeared to be a Mumbai Police uniform, reached out via video call to what he thought was an unsuspecting citizen.
Unaware of his audience, the scammer introduced himself confidently as a Mumbai Police officer, aiming to intimidate his target.
But as soon as the scammer launched into his act, he realised he had made a huge mistake.
On the other end of the call was an officer from the Thrissur Cyber Cell, who quickly turned on his camera, revealing himself to the scammer.
Caught off guard, the scammer's expression shifted from confidence to shock as he realised he was speaking with the police.
This interaction was shared by the Thrissur City Police on Tuesday, and the clip went viral within hours, accumulating over 167,000 views and nearly 8,000 likes.
The video caption in Malayalam highlighted the scammer's startled reaction upon realising he was face-to-face with law enforcement.
