After receiving criticism from Indian users, social media platform X suspended the account of 'Barry Stanton'. The account, notorious for its abusive and racist comments directed at Indians and Indian immigrants, was condemned by Indian users who highlighted Stanton's offensive tweets.
With over 1.8 lakh followers, the account was notorious for its nasty drawings and memes. Posts contained explicit representations of Indians in filthy conditions, as well as nasty statements about forcing Indians away from "white neighbourhoods".
The account allegedly made harsh comments regarding Jews and Africans. Several Indian users chastised X owner Elon Musk for not suspending the account sooner. The suspension became a popular issue on X, with the hashtag #Suspended trending nationally by Friday morning.

According to his bio, Barry Stanton is a British national and a father of five. However, investigations discovered that the images associated with the account were of a different pensioner from Worcestershire.
According to reports, the 'Barry Stanton' account could be a satire or a vehicle for racist beliefs hidden behind a phoney identity. The account's objectionable content had been active for years and had thousands of retweets.

Why did Barry's account get suspended?
X user Akshit Singh brought the contentious account to the attention of Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw and the UK High Commission. He asked for a probe into the account's activities, claiming, "This account has been disseminating hate speech and offensive remarks targeting individuals based on their race and nationality."
In his complaint, Singh requested that the Ministry take three actions. First, he asked for a probe into the account activities. Second, he asked that the account be banned in India. Finally, he encouraged the Ministry to implement guidelines against hateful content.
