From Vandalising Tejas Express To Speeding In Atal Tunnel, How Indians Make A Mess Of Good Things

India is the second-largest country in the world in terms of population and holds a place amongst the fastest-growing economies of the world. When it comes to India, another thing stands out: people are quick to blame the government for almost every issue without truly questioning their own behaviour.

Social norms, behaviour, conduct and code, and ethics dictate civic sense. But we Indians don't exactly listen to all that. In case you don't believe us, here are some recent instances that will make you realise we Indians truly don't deserve anything good:

1. Rohtang Tunnel

Just a few days since PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's longest highway tunnel¡ªAtal Rohtang Tunnel in Himachal¡ªand three accidents have already been reported.

Authorities have blamed reckless and negligent driving by tourists for the accidents and over-speeding and racing in the newly opened tunnel. Many did not adhere to the speed limit of 80km/hr, while others stopped midway to click selfies.

2. Tejas Express

With stolen headphones and littered floors, Tejas Express is a classic example of why some Indians cannot handle luxury.

Back in May 2017, after Tejas Express embarked on its very first trip, it returned with the headphones stolen, infotainment screens damaged and waste strewn all over the floor. The train was reportedly subjected to vandalism, a fact corroborated by the then-viral images of smashed windows.

3. Hampi Vandalised

In 2019, a video showing three men 'ruining the ruins' of Hampi went viral. The men could be seen toppling the ages-old pillars and then rejoicing at their 'heroic' act! After protests, the four miscreants who were seen in a video pulling down the pillars at Vishnu temple in Hampi had to re-erect them.

The New Indian Express quoting Additional Public Prosecutor Geetha Mirajkar reported that the four accused were taken to the spot and made to re-erect the pillars, weighing tonnes, in the presence of Archaeological Survey of India officials.

4. Delhi's Signature Bridge

In 2018, Delhi commuters were attempting crazy stunts at the newly opened Signature bridge. According to ANI, people were seen posing while clinging onto the window panes of cars and playing loud music. A couple of men were also snapped sitting on the suspension cables to get their pictures clicked.

There were also reports of two youths riding a KTM sports bike who were killed while performing a stunt on their speeding vehicle at the Signature Bridge. Locals claimed that the youths were speeding and had tried to perform a stunt when they lost control and their bike hit the railing of the Signature Bridge.

5. Chandni Chowk's Pedestrian Path Trashed

Plans to turn Chandi Chowk into a safe place for pedestrians have been dashed. According to a TOI report, the path now is filled with construction dump; the cement barricades and the small bollards have been left damaged.

A PWD official blames the progress on the COVID-19 lockdown saying, they don't have enough labourers to complete the construction. The project was first hit by the ban on construction as part of anti-pollution measures, and then the COVID lockdown lengthened the waiting period.
