'Sorry Diljit Dosanjh, but...': Coldplay's 'wonderful' management at Mumbai shows sparks debate about India's live show infrastructure
Coldplay has taken India by storm with their two successful shows in Mumbai, and there's more to come. Those who attended the British band's shows have been raving about the impressive management. This has now reminded many of Diljit's remarks, who said India does not have infrastructure for live shows.
Coldplay has managed to paint Mumbai yellow with their two back-to-back shows over the weekend, and a third concert is all set to enthrall fans on Wednesday (January 21). From Chris Martin's interactive sessions with fans to concerts' visual appeal, including dazzling lights, LED wristbands, and intricate stage designs, the British rock band's Music of the Sphere world tour has managed to impress concertgoers with their management tactics. However, this has now brought scrutiny on Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati tour and his remarks on India's poor infrastructure for live shows.
Netizens praise Coldplay for its concert management
Coldplay has been making waves in India with their Music of the Spheres world tour. The band's effortless concert management during their recent shows at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai has been lauded by fans.
One user recently took to X to praise the English band while also shading Diljit Dosanjh, whose Dil-Luminati tour received massive flak for its poor management. The user, who went by the handle adityamehrax, wrote, "Sorry, Diljit, but India does have the infrastructure to do concerts; maybe if you could get a team like Coldplay, it would be possible."
What did Diljit Dosanjh say about India's concert infrastructure?
During his Chandigarh show of the Dil-Luminati tour on December 14, Diljit paused in the middle of his performance to express his dismay over India's infrastructure for live shows, announcing he will no longer hold shows in India. In multiple clips that emerged on social media, he could be heard saying in Punjabi, "We don't have the proper infrastructure for live shows here. This is a significant source of revenue, and many people rely on it for work. I'll try next time to ensure the stage is in the center so you can all gather around it. Until then, I won't be doing shows in India; that's certain."
Coldplay vs Diljit Dosanjh concert management: Netizens debate
While Diljit slammed India's inadequate facilities during the India leg of his tour, Coldplay, a foreign band, for the most part, has not disappointed fans with its Mumbai shows. This has sparked debate about whether it's the infrastructure of artists who need to level up their game.
X users have now reacted to the post with mixed reactions. While one section of the internet believes Coldplay did a 'wonderful' job managing the crowd, another strongly disagrees, saying India does need a better infrastructure for such shows.
Praising Coldplay's concert, one user wrote, "Everything was managed so well. I don't know if they're doing it better or if it was just for Coldplay. I did not expect the event to be managed well. And more importantly, water being accessible and for free. I hope this becomes the new norm in India."

Another noted, "If you are getting a cheaper venue despite astronomically high ticket prices, you are the problem."
Exactly. If you are getting a cheaper venue despite astronomically high ticket prices, you are the problem.

A third added, "Oh, the crowd was wonderfully managed... Expected a little chaos but nothing too much... It was easy to get there, and we could easily board a bus from the station for 10 rs pp."

Another commented that it would have been better if Indian artists stopped pocketing all the money and spent it on experience.
Diljit tickets started at 13k and he says the infra is not upto the mark. Coldplay¡¯s max ticket was 12.5k, maybe if the indian artists stop pocketing all the money and spend it on experience, it would be so much better

However, some users also sided with Diljit's remarks, with one writing, "Strongly disagree. India needs more infrastructure. There¡¯s a lot at play here that is more than just ¡°getting a team.¡±. Coldplay was 50-60k pax, and Diljit¡¯s shows are maybe 20-30k. Economies of scale work at a stadium level, but can you name one purpose-built arena that can hold 30k people in Mumbai?"

"I'm a staunch MODI SUPPORTER, but here I agree with Diljit because most of the concerts I went to had a lackluster infrastructure and very basic amenities... Infrastructure-wise we are very far behind... and it's not always about politics; sometimes we need to get over it," added another user.

One individual wrote, "What my guess is is that Diljit wanted a 360¡ã stage. He involves himself much more in performing than Coldplay, in my opinion. Dancing and all if you see. Even Coldplay didn't get a 360¡ã stage this time. Even Diljit's vid with Ed in Birmingham was on a 360¡ã stage."
