Whopping $50 million, home detention & round-the-clock security: All about Diddy's new bail package
Diddy has suffered yet another blow as a federal judge denied his request for a gag order in the sex trafficking case. However, the rapper has now proposed a 'far more robust' package to secure bail before he goes to trial in May 2025.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs, also known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy, has pushed a 'far more robust' bail package after three failed attempts. The music mogul's desperate attempts to secure bail so far have been met with disappointments, with Judge Subramanian denying Combs¡¯ request for a gag order against his victims and their lawyers, ruling the demand ¡°unprecedented¡¯ and ¡°unwarranted¡±. Claiming that the rapper does not pose a threat to society, Diddy's legal team has now proposed a new bail package as he seeks to be freed from jail ahead of his impending trial next year. The 55-year-old is currently lodged in New York's Metropolitan Detention Centre, where he's been held for eight weeks on criminal sex trafficking charges.
Federal judge rejects Diddy's gag order request in sex trafficking case
On Friday, the federal judge rejected a gag order in Diddy's sexual trafficking case. Judge Subramanian said that what Diddy was seeking an ¡®incredibly broad¡¯ and would have ¡®sweeping First Amendment implications.' "Not all alleged victims will be participants in this case, and a blanket restriction on their speech will silence individuals who may never have anything to do with the proceedings here. A gag order ¡ is an extreme remedy to be issued only as a last resort,¡± the judge wrote.
What's Diddy's new bail proposal?
Following the major blow, Diddy's legal team claimed lawyers behind the civil cases had made ¡®shockingly prejudicial and false allegations¡¯ about Combs, adding their client has a constitutional right to a fair trial, free from the influence of prejudicial statements in the press.
His team has now proposed a revised bail package to secure his release from jail. The new $50 million bail package, backed by his Florida mansion which was raided by the FBI, includes home detention with round-the-clock security monitoring and severe restrictions on Combs' contact with individuals, limiting interactions to only his legal counsel, per ABC News. The latest comes after the judge previously cited concerns that Combs poses a danger to the community and may obstruct justice or intimidate witnesses.
MDC-Brooklyn lacks adequate resources: Rapper's legal team
Combs' lawyers have also argued that the Brooklyn federal jail where he is currently being held lacks adequate resources for him to review the extensive video and photographic evidence crucial to building his defence. The MDC-Brooklyn has a long history of problems. In late October, a number of electronic devices, drugs and associated paraphernalia, and homemade weapons were found during a sweep.
Sean Combs faces serious allegations of sex trafficking and abuse, with a trial set for May 2025. Despite multiple lawsuits and countless allegations, the rapper and his legal team have vehemently denied the chagres.
