Family Googles Signature On One Of Their Paintings, Discover It's Worth A Whopping Rs 10 Crore
Ben Enwonwu was a famous Nigerian modernism artist. A family owned one of his pieces &lsquoChristine&rsquo and did not even know its worth. The painting was sold for £11 million at an auction after the family realised its worth after googling the signature of the artist.
Sometimes we do not even realise the worth of valuables we own. That is what happened with a family who owned a painting worth Rs 10 crore and had no clue about it.
Ben Enwonwu was a famous Nigerian modernism artist who is credited with the creation of ¡®African Mona Lisa¡¯. A family owned one of his pieces, ¡®Christine¡¯ and did not even know its worth. The painting had been sitting in the family¡¯s home since 1971, the time it was painted in Lagos. Enwonwu died in 1994 and is considered the father of Nigerian modernism.
The painting was later sold for ?1.1 million at an auction after the family realised its worth after googling the signature of the artist.

The London auction house reportedly said, "The family were unaware of the significance of the painting or the importance of the artist, until a chance "googling" of the signature led them to Sotheby's free Online Estimate Platform.¡±
The painting fetched more than seven times the pre-auction estimate.
