An 81-Year-Old Widow Is The Only Person Residing On This Isolated Island Since 1991
Kim Sin-Yeol is the only person who lives on this disputed Dokdo islands which have been in contention by Japan and South Korea for over 300 years. She has been living on the island since 1991 with her husband who died last October and now sheis on on her own.
What if you had an entire island to yourself? This 81-year-old woman is actually living what might just sound like a dream to the rest of the world. Kim Sin-Yeol is the only person who lives on this disputed Dokdo islands which have been in contention by Japan and South Korea for over 300 years now.

While tourists keep visiting the island, she is the only permanent resident. She has been living on the island since 1991 with her husband, who died last October and now she is on on her own.
Kim says that she feels peace and the island vibe eases her mind. Her daughter and son-in-law are planning to move in with her soon.

Japan calls the island as Takeshima islands and has accused South Korea of illegally occupying it while according to the Koreans it has been theirs since the sixth century. The South Koreans call the island as Liancourt Rocks and it consists of two main islets and 35 smaller rocks. The Liancourt Rocks lie in rich fishing grounds that also contains many large deposits of natural gas.
