Pet owners and their pets have a unique bond. However, people were startled and outraged by this Australian family's decision to commemorate the memory of their deceased pet dog.
The family got a custom-made piece after they turned their deceased dog into a rug.
The video, posted on Instagram by Chimera Taxidermy, reveals the final piece.
The specially designed pelt is gradually revealed in more detail as the video progresses. The head and paws of the dog are flawless and incredibly lifelike. "Beautiful old golden retriever preserved as a pelt for his family," read the caption.
The owner of Chimera Taxidermy, Maddy, spoke to Yahoo! News Australia and said, ¡°Pet taxidermy has only really become more popular in the last five years or so, so it¡¯s a very new thing to see for most people.¡±
She added, ¡°Some are more of a sentimental keepsake; others are on display resting in their beds or however their owners wanted them preserved.¡± However, she agrees that pet taxidermy is ¡°definitely not for everyone.¡±
Maddy emphasized in the comments that the pelt was turned into leather and tanned so the fur wouldn't fall out. She explained that leather would preserve the rug in good condition for a long time.
She said, ¡°Preserving pets as pelts or rugs are not as common as people wanting full taxidermy mounts, and most of the pets¡¯ taxidermies are sleeping. But we can do the pet rugs without the pets¡¯ heads.¡±
Over 29k people have seen the video. However, the approach rather startled online users. It is quite uncommon to see people doing the same with their pets, even though the taxidermy method (which entails keeping dead creatures in a lifelike fashion) involves preserving a being in its original form.
While the idea abhorred some people, others felt it was one of the worst things a person might do to their pet.
