Ain't Nothing But A Heartache! Backstreet Boys Admit 'I Want It That Way' Lyrics Make No Sense
I Want It That Way was the lead single from the bands third record Millennium which came out in 1999. It was written by Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson and it is one of their evergreen songs. Backstreet Boys band members appeared on Watch What Happens Live this week.
Most of us grew up singing Backstreet Boys' 'I want it that way' at the top of our voices.
And everytime that songs plays anywhere even today there is no way you won¡¯t find a person feeling the lyrics:
Tell me why,
Ain¡¯t nothing but a heartache,
Ain¡¯t nothing but a mistake,
Tell me why,
I never want to hear you say,
I want it that way
It makes a lot of sense right? But does it actually make sense in reality? According to the Boys themselves- it does not.
Backstreet Boys band members Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough appeared on Watch What Happens Live this week and were taking calls from fans.
In a video that is going viral one fan can be heard asking, ¡°In your song ¡®I Want It That Way,¡¯ why do you sing ¡®I never want to hear you say / I want it that way¡¯? What way do you not want it to be?¡±
Answering the question McLean said, ¡°First of all, the song makes no sense.¡±
He then said, ¡°There was a completely different version of the song that actually made sense and thankfully we decided to go back to the one that didn¡¯t make sense. I don¡¯t think it would¡¯ve been as big as it was, had it made sense.¡±
'I Want It That Way' was the lead single from the band¡¯s third record, Millennium, which came out in 1999. It was written by Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson and it is one of their evergreen songs. Will we look at the song the same way now that we know it officially makes no sense?
