BHU To Offer A Legit 'Bhoot Vidya' Course Starting Jan 2020 To Help Doctors Treat The Possessed
Banaras Hindu University is all set to start asix-month certificate course in Bhoot Vidya or the science of paranormal. The main aim is to teach doctors to deal with people who claim to see or be possessed by ghosts. The syllabus will focus on psychosomatic disorders which are often confused with paranormal occurrences.
The human mind is a curious one. While some choose to be pragmatic about things, others believe that there's simply no explanation for some paranormal things.
We've all at some point been absolutely fascinated by mysterious events and the possibility of the existence of an afterlife or paranormal entities. But none of us really think about pursuing it as a career or studying about it, apart from just watching horror movies and reading ghost stories.
If the paranormal world truly intrigues you, you can now study it at Banaras Hindu University. According to reports, the university is all set to start a six-month certificate course in 'Bhoot Vidya,' or the 'science of paranormal,' the classes for which will begin from January 2020.
The main aim is to teach doctors to deal with people who claim to see or be possessed by ghosts. Although it¡¯s named ¡®Bhoot Vidya¡¯, the syllabus will focus on psychosomatic disorders which are often confused with paranormal occurrences.
¡°Bhoot Vidya mainly deals with psychosomatic disorders, diseases caused by unknown reasons and diseases of mind or psychic conditions,¡± BBC quoted Yamini Bhushan Tripathi, the Ayurveda faculty dean, as saying.
Yamini Bhushan Tripathi, told HT, 'Bhoot Vidya is one of the eight basic branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda. Faculty of Ayurveda at the BHU is the first in the country to create a separate unit of Bhoot Vidya and design a certificate course on the subject.'
Doctors holding Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees would be eligible for studying the new course.
The course quite obviously started a debate on Twitter. While some expressed that therapy and medicine are the appropriate treatment, others ridiculed it saying it was impractical and unnecessary.

My take -
Severe and chronic mental illnesses are treated best with modern medicine and appropriate rehab. Early intervention by modern medicine is their only hope.
For many mild ailments of mind,heart and soul field is wide open for all.
According to sources, the faculty of Ayurveda at the BHU is the first in the country to create a separate unit of Bhoot Vidya and design a certificate course on the subject.
Six months ago, the heads of sixteen departments of the University approved this project. The proposal was then accepted by the Academic Council of BHU.
