Bihar Parents Refuse To Donate Kidney To Daughter As 'She Is A Girl', Leave Her To Die
Kanchan Kumari is battling for her life at a government hospital in Bihar. Both her kidneys have failed and this is not even the saddest part of the story. The parents themselves refused to donate their kidneys as she is a girl.
While a lot of us have grown up in families who have never discriminated against the girl child, not everyone is as fortunate. In many families, even till date, girls are considered a burden and are deprived of basic facilities and rights.
A teenage girl is battling for her life at a government hospital in Bihar. Both her kidneys have failed, and this is not even the saddest part of the story. In a normal situation parents would be worried for their child and would want to do everything in their power to save her. But the parents of this unfortunate girl, coming from a regressive background, have refused to donate their kidneys to her because she is a girl. Yes, it is 2019, and a girl child still has to suffer because of her gender.
Kanchan Kumari is a resident of Avgil village under Sadar block in Sheikhpura district. She appeared for matriculation examination from a local government girl¡¯s high school. She was ecstatic when she found out that she had cleared the examination with first division.
But her celebration lasted a short while as she fell ill soon after and had to be admitted at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna for treatment. After a series of tests it was found that both her kidneys had failed.

The parents did not have the financial resources for a kidney transplant so they took her back to a local Sadar hospital in Sheikhpura. The local media has reported the distressing news that the parents themselves refused to donate their kidneys as she is a girl. The girl is literally awaiting her death as there is little to no medical assistance and her parents have left her side in a time like this.
¡°Who will donate his/her kidneys? She is a girl,¡± her father Ramashray Yadav reportedly said. The mother too showed no interest in her daughter¡¯s well being either.
What¡¯s stranger and more distressing is the fact that the parents have not really approached the government and asked for any help. The Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) is known to have helped quite a few people in financial distress. The resources of the CMRF are usually utilised to provide immediate relief to the families of those killed in natural disasters but the funds also get diverted for the treatment of heart surgeries, kidney transplants and the like.
The most infuriating thing about the whole incident is that the parents will get away with what might be interpreted as the murder of their child. Murder, because they are deliberately letting her die, knowing full well what they can do to save her. Such insensitivity should be punished strictly.
