Either way, the incident has left people baffled and in splits. Some people also suspect that the thieves stole it to sell the parts as scrap metal.
In another bizarre incident that took place in February this year, thieves first stole an SUV from an office in Naraina in Delhi. Later, they went to a government-owned bank and successfully uprooted the ATM and fled from the spot.
What the thieves did not realise was that the vehicle was fitted with a Global Positioning System (GPS) that was giving every detail to its owner.
According to SUV owner Hermender Singh, his security guard informed him about vehicle theft.
"As soon as I got the information that my Bolero was stolen from out from outside the office, my son and an employee immediately opened the GPS to locate the vehicle. We then saw that the vehicle was moving towards Mayapuri. I immediately called the police about the vehicle theft and told them that we are following it," said Singh told TOI.
The vehicle was moving towards Delhi Cantonment and later turned to Dhaula Kuan. Singh then found an ATM with ropes attached to the back of the car. The police then reached the spot and took the ATM in possession. At the same time, the police got a call that an ATM was looted from near a guesthouse in Naraina.
