Can't Get Over 'Chernobyl'? Apparently, Russians Do Not Like It & Are Making Their Own Show
HBO&rsquos recently added show Chernobyl is considered one of the best shows of the year. IMDB ratings of the show also shows that the show is way ahead of all the other historical and fantasy dramas Chernobyl has an average IMDB rating of 96/10. But surprisingly Russia doesn't like the show. Russian media is finding it strange that HBO an American TV channel told the story about its heroes.
HBO's recently added show Chernobyl is considered one of the best shows of the year. After delivering one of the most iconic shows - Game Of Thrones - HBO's Chernobyl is breaking records.
Chernobyl revolves around the real events happened in 1986 Chernobyl disaster and the story of those who experienced and dealt with the consequences. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was situated near the city of Pripyat, in the north of the Ukrainian SSR.
A report in The Economist claims that Chernobyl is on its way to becoming the highest-ranked television series of all time. IMDB ratings of the show also shows that the show is way ahead of all the other historical and fantasy dramas.
Chernobyl has an average IMDB rating of 9.6/10, that's way ahead of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones as they have an average rating of 9.4/10.

But surprisingly, Russia doesn't like the show. Not only that, a Russian network is making its own show on Chernobyl, which will be a fictional story based on a conspiracy theory that claims the CIA sent an agent to the Chernobyl zone to carry out acts of the damage.
According to The Moscow Times, Russian media is finding it strange that HBO, an American TV channel, told the story about its heroes. Several major media outlets in Russia has criticised the show which is a national sensation in the country.
With great power comes greater responsibilities - Russia's most popular newspaper said that the competitors are using the series to tarnish the reputation of Russia as a nuclear power. The paper also said that the show is a 'caricature and not the truth'.
One of the country's main news channels painted the show in a negative light. According to him, the scientist Valery Legasov voiced his opinions in an article published in the same publication, criticising the HBO show.
As justification for the story, the film's director, Alexei Muradov, cited fringe conspiracy theorists, 'One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy's intelligence services was present at the station.'
