China: Forced To Do 150 Squats As Punishment By Her Teacher, Teenage Schoolgirl Left 'Permanently Disabled'

A teenage girl in China has been left permanently disabled after being forced to do 150 squats as punishment at her school.

The 14-year-old had been sneaking snacks into her dormitory at the Xianshi Vocational Senior High School in south-western China's Sichuan Province, Global Times reported. However, after catching her, a teacher got angry and asked her to do hundreds of squats as a punishment.

The mother of the schoolgirl, who has been named Zhou in local media, said that the incident happened on June 10.

Student leader Mu reportedly found snacks on the schoolgirl's bed and ordered her to do 300 squats. The schoolgirl surnamed Ren (pseudonym) denied that the snacks belonged to her and said that she had suffered a foot injury in April 2020.

But Mu still allegedly forced her to do 150 squats under the supervision of a teacher Liu, who allegedly did nothing to stop the abuse

After the incident, Ren had medical treatment including surgery at several hospitals in Luzhou city and Chengdu, but she was diagnosed as having a lifetime mobility restriction. She has since had to walk on crutches.

The girl has been in a deep shock since that day and is on medicine for depression.

When the school came to know about the condition of the girl, the teachers and staff present at the time of the incident were immediately suspended and instructions were also given to investigate the incident.

As per Global Times, the school was also asked to pay a penalty of Rs 13 lakh to the girl¡¯s parents, which they refused to take. This is the second such incident in China.
