An intoxicated woman tried an unusual tactic to fool police by swallowing hand sanitiser before a breath test 每 without realising that it contained alcohol.
This incident took place in April when Sophie Nutter, 29, was found with four flat tyres and a smashed windscreen after she was seen ※swerving violently§ across a road in East Yorkshire, England, Daily Mail reported. Blood was discovered on the rear door of the vehicle and on one of the front headlights.
When officers approached her, she decided to gulp the hand sanitiser. She refused two times to provide a breath sample before a reading came back showing she had 52mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Nutter pleaded guilty to drink driving and using a vehicle likely to cause danger of injury on April 7 when she appeared at Hull Crown Court.
Recorder Alex Menary told the court that Nutter had put hand sanitiser in her mouth in an effort to reduce the alcohol reading but it did not work, as per Hull Live.
It was reported that she was in breach of a two-year suspended prison sentence imposed at Hull Crown Court on October 9 last year.
The offences involved in that matter were possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply and possess criminal property on March 26, 2019.
She also had an offence related to supplying cocaine on November 1, 2018.
Recorder Menary told Nutter that she had only narrowly avoided being jailed on Christmas through activating the suspended sentence.
Nutter was handed a one-year community order involving 20 days of rehabilitation and 25 hours of unpaid work, plus a 23-month driving ban. She was also ordered to pay ?100 in costs.
