A flying drone dropped baggies of weed onto a town square in Israel as activists said it¡¯s high time the drug be legalized, according to a report. Police said they arrested two men who operated the quadcopter that flew over Rabin Square, a site often used for street protests and political rallies.
An activist group that¡¯s pushing for the legalization of weed in Israel used drones to drop packets of what looked like cannabis, over the main square in Tel Aviv.
According to Reuters, police reportedly arrested two men who flew the quadcopter over Rabin Square - an area that¡¯s often the site of protests and rallies.
¡°The time has come,¡± the group, Green Drone, said on its web messaging channel. ¡°Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it¡¯s the Green Drone sending you free cannabis from the skies.¡±

The bags of weed fluttered down near Rabin Square, and a video shows people grabbing some of the packets before the police arrive on the scene, with some even walking through traffic to recover the ones that had fallen onto the road.

Authorities revealed in a statement that the packets contained ¡°a dangerous drug¡± and that officers were able to retrieve dozens of them. In police photos, it appears that the baggies were filled with weed.

Currently, medical use of cannabis is permitted in Israel while recreational use is illegal but largely decriminalized.

In May, Israel gave approval for exports of medical cannabis, paving the way for sales abroad; the government expects it to produce hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

There are already more than 10 farms and five factories in Israel that meet health ministry standards, and some companies have reached agreements to sell cannabis to European countries or Canada once the licenses become available, Reuters reported.

Israeli farms, benefiting from a favorable climate and expertise in medical and agricultural technologies, are among the world¡¯s biggest producers of medical cannabis and have a good chance of becoming leaders in the expanding industry.
