A section of the internet in Hong Kong is outraged by an employer's bizarre demand made in response to a man's request for leave. A man described how his boss informed him that he needed a 12-day leave of absence on Facebook.

As part of the Chinese "tomb-sweeping" festival known as Ching Ming, when people visit the gravestones of their ancestors and pay their respects, the employee wanted to travel to mainland China.

He was shocked to learn that his boss wanted him to send pictures of his ancestors' graves to prove that he was actually going to visit them to pay his respects, according to the South China Morning Post.

"I took time off to pay respect to my ancestors, but my boss made me take photos of the graves to prove it," he wrote on a Facebook page.

The man, who is employed in Hong Kong, requested time off to visit Foshan, which is located in the province of Guangdong in southern China and is adjacent to Hong Kong.

¡°Hong Kong bosses are getting crazier, they are driving me crazy too,¡± he wrote.

The toxic employer reportedly questioned him, "Do you really need to take 12 days off to pay respect to your ancestors?" while asking for photographic proof of his leave request.

One user of social media urged the man to resign from his position due to the boss's unreasonable demand. Another user claimed on the same Facebook page that his boss at an insurance company asked underperforming workers to slap each other in the face as a form of "motivation."

What Is The Ching Ming Festival?

Ching Ming Festival, also known as Qingming Festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a traditional Chinese festival that falls on April 4th or 5th each year. It is a time for Chinese people to honour and remember their ancestors by cleaning and tidying their gravesites, offering food, incense, and other items, and performing rituals to show filial piety.

During the Ching Ming Festival, families often visit the gravesites of their ancestors to pay their respects and offer prayers. They may also clean the gravesites, remove weeds and debris, and burn incense or paper money as offerings.
