What happened in Ludhiana?
"A leopard entered the Central Green Society on Pakkhowal Road in Ludhiana late at night," journalist Gagandeep Singh wrote on X on Friday, December 8.
Who spotted the leopard?
A member of the society spotted the leopard, and the images were taken on the cameras put in the society. The Sadar police station arrived on the scene and sealed off the area after obtaining information.
The Forest Department is attempting to capture the leopard. The area is currently being checked, according to SHO Gurpreet Singh of the Sadar police station. Ludhiana, Punjab."
How did the authorities react?
According to Prithpal Singh, forest and wildlife officer of the Ludhiana range, after the society's management contacted the district administration, a team from the forest department visited the area but discovered no evidence of the leopard.
"We are putting up cages and checking around," the officer stated, "but until then, we request society residents to stay inside their homes and move out only if there is any emergency."
"Usually when it starts snowing in upper hilly areas in the northern region, animals such as leopards, sambhar, deer, etc. start moving towards the plains."
Why was the leopard seen in the residential area?
Singh theorised as to why the leopard was observed in a residential area. Because they normally move at night, we'd need at least two days to find it again. Leopards can travel 100¨C200 kilometres in a single night, so it is possible that they have gone out by now, but residents should remain wary."
