Watch: Oblivious Driver Plunges Cadillac Into Gigantic Sinkhole Ignoring Barriers Set Up To Close Off Work Site
Officials said part of the road had been closed off while a work crew carried out the repairs. The driver apparently went through the closed-off area and drove into the sinkhole, completely submerging the vehicle in the water-filled hole.
A driver plunged his Cadillac into a gigantic sinkhole in US' Maryland after ignoring cones and barriers that were set up to protect a work site following a water leak.
Luckily, the man managed to get out on his own and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, The Washington Post reported.
The incident occurred while Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSCC) officials were responding to a water main break at around 4:30 a.m. local time which later in the day caused the roadway to collapse into a sinkhole.
Officials said part of the road had been closed off while a work crew carried out the repairs. The driver apparently went through the closed-off area and drove into the sinkhole, completely submerging the vehicle in the water-filled hole.

¡°He drove through the cones and closed-off zone and then when he realized it was too late,¡± Maya told The Washington Post.

"The vehicle is out! Still, some water to pump out of the hole before crews can begin the repairs to the water main. Long day and a long night of repairs ahead," WSCC tweeted, before posting a warning to other residents.
The road remains closed, and it¡¯s not clear when it will reopen, police said. Maya said about 50 customers were without service, which is expected to be restored with a day.
