Mumbai, second only to Bengaluru in terms of notorious traffic jams, is infamous for congested roads and extended travel hours. As a result, many individuals prefer to use the local or metro trains.
However, because public transportation does not provide last-mile connectivity, most passengers take auto-rickshaws to go to their destination.
But ever seen a person travelling with their bicycle in tow? Here's what went on here.
Who is the man who travelled in the metro with his bicycle?
A young man was recently seen on the Mumbai metro carrying his bicycle, seemingly in an attempt to overcome the issue of connectivity.
Harshit Anurag, accompanied by his bicycle, is seen in the video exhibiting his ticket before boarding an escalator to reach the station.
What did he do in the video?
He then boards the train, places his bicycle on the designated stand, and takes a seat near it on a foldable seat. When he arrives at his destination, he exits the metro and begins riding his bicycle on the platform.
Where did he take his bicycle?
''Cycling through Mumbai's bustling streets and combining it with a Metro ride is an amazing experience! Using your bike to navigate the city's traffic and then smoothly transfer to Metro stations is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You get to see different parts of the city, learn about the culture, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. It's the ideal combination of urban exploration and fitness,'' he captioned the video.
When did this rule come into being?
One should note, riders can ride their bikes free of charge in the metro. Each compartment, as seen in the video, has a dedicated parking place that can hold one bicycle at a time. According to metro officials, the option is only available on the yellow line 2A and red line 7.
How did people on the internet react?
Many Instagram users praised the idea and congratulated Mumbai Metro for offering bicycle parking. ''Bro is essentially carrying a transporting vehicle into a transporting vehicle for transport,'' one user said. ''That's a cool feature,'' said another.
''Actually, taking it from the escalator is not allowed; you must use the elevator,'' wrote a third. The station and elevator are designed to make it easy to transport a bicycle.''
Previously, a similar video of a youngster using this alternative to get to his tuition sessions enthralled the internet. ''This young youngster uses the Mumbai Metro on a daily basis to get to school. It was a pleasure to see him easily park his bicycle. He appeared to be at ease with the metro services. ''All the best to him,'' former bureaucrat R A Rajeev wrote while sharing a photo of the boy.
