'24 BMI, earning optional': Man sends bride absurd list of requirements, singer Chinmayi Sripaada's tweet viral
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada recently tweeted a screenshot of a totally absurd 'list of requirements' a groom apparently sent a medico bride. What's unbelievable is the level of ignorance here given the groom is a PhD and a gold medallist. Clearly, education doesn't matter when people refuse to evolve and move with the times.
To have certain expectations when choosing your life partner is understandable. Ideally, most seek a partner who can shoulder responsibilities, gets along with the family well and can eventually bring something of their own to the relationship. But our society seems hell-bent on reducing each marriage to nothing more than a business transaction involving picture-perfect 'Indian Barbies' and 'Kens.'

What absurd requirements did the man share with his prospective bride?

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada wrote, "This is the exact List Of Requirements that a Groom sent to a prospective bride who is a Medico. Groom is a PhD and Gold Medallist apparently. LOL." The tweet is the perfect example of what's wrong with our society and just how far we'll go to find the "perfect" partner no matter our flaws. For something this ridiculous, the only thing left to do is laugh. Here's hoping the prospective bride knows better.
The post clearly struck a chord with people and it has 215.9k views and 1,630 likes so far. According to the screenshot, the ridiculous list of requirements goes as follows. "About Bride - Should be graceful, competent and smart enough to handle her home and family matters," the man wrote. One line in, it's not so bad. But wait till you read the rest.
Our gracious groom is kind enough to state, right off the bat, that the bride has to contribute "physically" and basically the babysit the whole family. He added, "Should be vibrant and energetic to bring colour, variety and liveliness through her physical contribution in family's lifestyle including food, clothing and lifestyle."
Here comes the clincher though: the "ideal BMI!" We're assuming the man is not a Neanderthal since he's using social media, but here's what he wrote next: "Ideal if she is within 24 BMI. Is encouraged to machanise the daily chores without servants and outsourcing." The BMI red flag aside, the bride apparently also needs to slave away doing daily chores to prove her worth.
And of course, we're not truly in the Indian job market if don't take at least one sh*t on the bride's passion in life or even her job, even if she's just a doctor who might one day save lives. The man further added, "Her job is optional and earning is immaterial. Job can be pursued as a passion but should be below the needs of the family." Perfect! So not only is the bride expected to be a nanny, a babysitter, a nutritionist and house help all rolled into one, she also needs to kill any ambition she might harbour. Because who cares what she likes, right?
If you don't already have a massive headache, good on you. Reducing the bride further to nothing more than a baby-producing cow, the anonymous man wrote, "She should be grounded to realities in life and resonable in her thinking. For initial seven years after marriage she may not be able to work, unless posted to Chennai, because we expect a child from this marriage and until the child goes to school the bride woul be able to do justice to her job."
How did the internet react?
Congratulations if you survived reading the entire post. Most others could not, and they rushed to the comments section to share their two cents. Not surprisingly, some of the comments were downright savage and a delight to read. It was also reassuring to see how most of us found the list laughable at best, thanks of course to the featured man baby.
