Mumbai: Man Tears Out Passport Pages To Hide Travel History From Wife, Lands In Jail

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly removing some pages from his passport in an attempt to hide a foreign trip from his wife.

The man, who was identified as Samdarshi Yadav, was stopped from boarding a flight to the Maldives after officials found he had destroyed some pages from his passport to hide his travel history from his wife, The Times of India reported.

In a bid to keep his extra-marital affair under wraps, the man had reportedly torn pages from his passport but was apparently unaware that tampering with it is an offence.

The man visited a foreign country a few days ago to meet his girlfriend, as per PTI, citing a police official.

When he flew back to India on Thursday night, immigration officials at the Mumbai airport noticed that some pages of his passport, which should have had visa stamps for his latest journey, were missing.

When questioned by police, the man said he had gone abroad to meet his girlfriend after telling the wife that he was travelling for work in India.

Man booked under relevant IPC sections for tearing out passport pages

As his wife grew suspicious, she called him but he didn't answer her calls. So, in order to ensure that she didn't learn about his whereabouts, he thought of removing pages from his passport.

He was arrested under relevant Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections including cheating and forgery and a further probe is on, the police official added.

In an unrelated incident, a man and his girlfriend were charged with an offence after the former allegedly used his wife's Aadhaar card for identification to check into a hotel in Pune, Maharashtra.

The wife, who is also the complainant, had installed a GPS device in her husband's car and found out that he was cheating on her and lodged a complaint.

The complainant contacted the hotel and the staff informed her that the man had checked in with his wife.

After examining the CCTV footage, the woman found out that her husband had checked into the hotel with another woman, using her Aadhaar card. A case under section 419 (cheating) of the IPC was registered against the man and his girlfriend.
