US Man Earns Close To $9 Million From Lottery Ticket He Had Apparently Completely Forgotten About
A man from Oregon, USA unexpectedly won millions of dollars after checking a lottery ticket he bought months earlier.
A man from the state of Oregon, USA won an $8.9 million jackpot from a lottery ticket that he had forgotten about.
According to the Oregon lottery website, a man named Wilbur Brown had purchased a multi-drawing Megabucks ticket on Christmas eve in 2021. This ticket covered over 13 weeks, each drawing from December 25, 2021, to February 19, 2022.
Brown said that he did check his ticket after the first few drawings but forgot about it after that and didn't bother to check it again. ¡°Then I just kind of forgot about it and wasn¡¯t checking."
After this, Brown went back to the Moose Lodge where he got his lottery ticket. When he gave the ticket to a server for a scan, the message ¡°large lottery winner¡± popped up.
Brown was left surprised. So, when he and his friends checked the internet to see the lottery ticket numbers, he found out that he has won.
"Brown won his big prize on the eighth drawing on his 26-drawing ticket and his winning numbers were 15, 33, 34, 40, 42, and 47," the Oregon lottery website said.
The prize money will be provided to the winner in over thirty years. Brown has opted to take the cheque annually. So, he'll keep getting $200,000 annually.
Moose Lodge, which sold the ticket to Brown, will receive one per cent of the prize money -- $89,000.
After Brown's win, many are opting for the same ticket thinking they'll have the same fate.
The lodge's manager Michael Scott said there are several challenges the place is facing economically. ¡°The influence of receiving such a big chunk of change is huge! We¡¯ll be working with our members to figure out the best way to use the bonus money," he added.
