Embarrassing! Mexican Bridge Collapses On Inauguration Day, Mayor Along With 20 Others Fall In Ditch
The mayor of the Mexican city of Cuernavaca was inaugurating a footbridge over a scenic stream on Tuesday when the span collapsed, sending him and about two dozen other people plunging into a gully.
Construction problems always cost a fortune but they also cause great embarrassment if things fail in public view - especially if it happens at the inauguration ceremony. Well, that's exactly what happened in the Mexican city of Cuernavaca.
Cuernavaca's mayor was left embarrassed after a newly built bridge collapsed during its inauguration ceremony, taking him and more than 20 people into a ditch.
According to reports, at least eight people, including four city council members, two other city officials and a local reporter were injured in the fall. All the injured parties had to be extracted from the narrow space and taken to the local hospital.
A video of the instance is going viral on social media. In the said clip, the boards separated from the chains supporting them. This occurred when people were crossing it. However, the breakage led people to fall down suddenly, leaving everyone panicked.

The hanging bridge made of wooden boards and metal chains was recently remodeled. According to local news reports, Mayor Jos¨¦ Luis Uri¨®stegui said that prior to the inaugural walk across the bridge some people had been jumping on it. More so the presence of officials and journalists probably exceeded the capacity of the bridge according to the Mayor.
The footbridge was part of a river walk along with one of the city's many streams. It was intended to be part of a revival of the city's natural attractions.
