At Least 30 Miss Thailand Beauty Contestants Fell Into A Dirty Pond After The Bridge Collapsed

Not all bridges are safe to walk on and these pageant queens learnt it the hard way.

A viral video of a bridge collapsing and plunging 30 Miss Thailand contestants into a dirty pond has surfaced on social media. Some might find the footage hilarious while others may think it's terrible for those who got injured in the accident.

The contestants were posing for the camera as part of the second day of the competition in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

As part of their promotional duties, the contestants visited a cafe and were posing for pictures on a suspension bridge constructed from ropes connected to a steel walkaway.

Unfortunately for them as well as the cafe owner, the bridge collapsed under the weight and all of them fell into the dirty lagoon.

Three girls suffered injuries with one getting cuts and bruises on her forehead, while the other two had minor scrapes, according to a Newsflare report. The injured contestants were rushed to the hospital for a checkup. They have been discharged now.

The cafe's owner, Worapot Chatkanjana was embarrassed over the incident and promised to cover treatment costs for the injured contestants. He also donated 500,000 baht (Rs 12,24,188) to cover their medical expenses.

¡±I¡¯ll also pay for the other contestants to have their dresses cleaned professionally,¡± Chatkanjana said.

He also said, ¡±I don¡¯t know why the bridge broke. It is strong, but it just could not handle the weight of the women. In the future, we will make improvements to the bridge to be even stronger.¡±

The 27 contestants who did not get injured will continue campaigning for the Miss Thailand crown while three of their rivals will rejoin them tomorrow.

¡±Normally the contest is held in Bangkok, but this time we chose Chiang Mai and we were confident that it would be safe and secure,¡± said Dr. Adisorn Suddee, director of the Miss Thailand 2020 event.

He also said, ¡±This was the second day of the contest, and it was unexpected that the bridge would break.¡±
