Apocalyptic Scenes In New York: Smoke From Canadian Fires Forces Dogs To Put On Masks
The recent forest fires in Canada resulted in New York being covered in a veil of smoke. This apocalyptic scene has forced pet owners to put masks on their dogs before going on walks.
The Canadian fires have resulted in New York turning into an apocalyptic chimney of sorts. The rough air quality has led people to take extra precautions to save themselves from any harm from the toxins in the air. For pet parents, this concern has skyrocketed as their fur babies have little to no resources to protect themselves from wildfire pollution.
Although the air quality has much improved in the days that followed, reports suggest that smoke from the Canadian wildfires will return. However, the city will be set free from the dystopian orange haze.
Dogs Wear Masks On Walks In Smoke-Ridden New York
In order to save their furry friends, humans have resorted to outlandish solutions. Petfluencer Paige Chernick lives in New York and is the parent of a 10-year-old Bichon poodle named Charlie. Paige showed her 131K Instagram followers what she is doing to protect her little munchkin.
In a video, Paige revealed how she took her dog on walks only when she fitted a comfortable mask on the dog¡¯s mouth to save it from the toxic air outside in the city. Before going out in the spooky, murky orange air of Manhattan, Paige masked her dog for safety. She added a caption to her video, which read, "When your mom makes you wear a mask to go outside in this crazy NYC smoke."
Paige also added in her post¡¯s caption, ¡°We are so glad the smoke and terrible air quality is finally easing up here in NYC! ? #BetterSafeThanSorry #DogOfNYC.¡± She also told The Post, ¡°I bought these reusable dog filter masks on Amazon at the beginning of the pandemic when everything was still unknown and I thought my dogs may need extra protection.¡±
The Petfluencer Herself Faced Breathing Issues Due To The Smoke
Paige herself experienced ¡°elevated asthma symptoms¡± with the sudden rise in toxins in NYC¡¯s streets. She went on, ¡°I kept them in a safe place since then, and when the air quality in New York was dangerous from the terrible smoke this week, I knew it was the perfect time to use them!¡±
The influencer is not the only one masking her dogs. Twitter user Andrew White from Rochester also shared on the site how her wife made a makeshift mask for their dog and wrote, "Lots of smoke today in Rochester. My wife made a mask for our dog though. Kind of incredible."
