Oops! British Airways Plane Supposed To Fly From London To Germany Lands In Scotland Instead
British Airways flight took off from London City Airport was supposed to fly to Dusseldorf Germany. Instead the plane ended up taking off in the opposite direction and landed in Edinburg. Nobody realised the mistake until they all landed in Scotland. The airline later apologized to the passengers
It's 8:00 pm as you stumble out of office. You're tired and exhausted and just want to get home. Halfway through your metro or bus ride home, you realise that you boarded the wrong metro/bus and are headed in the opposite direction. Been there, done that. Right?
But what happens when this happens with an entire plane full of people? A British Airways flight from London to Germany took off in the wrong direction and landed in Scotland!
The British Airways flight took off from London City Airport was supposed to fly to Dusseldorf, Germany. But instead, the plane ended up taking off in the opposite direction and landed in Edinburg - 525 miles away from Dusseldorf, USA Today reported.
According to the airline, the incorrect flight plan was actually filed by WDL Aviation, which operated the flight on behalf of British Airways. Thus, the pilot, the cabin crew and the traffic controllers assumed that this plane was supposed to be heading to Scotland.
Nobody realised the mistake until they all landed in Scotland. Passenger Zs¨®fia Szab¨® told CNN that she noticed something was wrong when she saw mountains instead of the ¡°usual German industrial landscape¡± upon landing. ¡°Then my colleague sitting across the aisle from me told me to check Google Maps and it showed us being around Carlisle,¡± she said.
¡°Most of us found this situation quite funny,¡± another passenger, Szab¨® said. ¡°People were on phone calls trying to convince everyone that they¡¯ve arrived in the wrong city.¡±
The airline later apologized to the passengers.
