An influencer in Pakistan has caused outrage after a video emerged from a party she reportedly hosted where a lion can be seen chained up and being used as a party prop.
In a video that has surfaced online and shared by Project Save Animals, the lion thought to have been sedated, can be seen lying on the sofa at the party venue in Lahore with a chain around its neck. That's appalling to say the least.
¡°Lions were shackled left and right and paraded as if they were a new decoration piece, which they¡¯re not, obviously,¡± the part of the caption on the post shared by Project Save Animals, read.
¡°Why do we tend to forget that these are living, breathing beings that have the capacity to feel just like you?," it added.
At one point during the compilation of clips shared on Instagram, an influencer named Susan Khan can be seen petting the lion.
¡°If you look at the paws of the lion, they are stubbed, meaning they were declawed,¡± animal rescuer Syed Hassan, told VICE World News. ¡°I¡¯ve seen people in Pakistan showing off wild cats in public and social media. I find it messed up that people get pleasure from seeing an animal that is shackled and sedated," he added.
A petition has since been launched by Hassan, the founder of Project Save Animals calling for an end to animals being used as party props. On the petition page Hassan writes: ¡°With countless cubs and lions being mistreated in Pakistan, we cannot afford to showcase behaviour that seeks to normalize this atrocity.
¡°I deal with so many people who have a lot of complaints when it comes to adopting strays but we don¡¯t bat an eye at this monstrosity?
In Pakistan, the elite and influential routinely flaunt wild and exotic animals as status symbols. Licenses and permits are available for a small fee.
Earlier in March, a couple in Lahore had sparked fury for using a sedated lion cub as a prop for a wedding photoshoot.
The incident had caused a public outcry and there were demands for offenders to be punished. But not action was taken.
