Stacey A¡¯Hearne, a 25-year-old mother residing in Blackwood, Wales, UK, has opened up about the challenging journey of caring for her three-year-old daughter, Wynter.
What condition does the UK toddler have?
Wynter has been diagnosed with a rare and potentially dangerous condition: pica, an eating disorder characterized by the compulsion to consume non-food items, alongside autism.
This combination has led to worrisome situations where Wynter has attempted to ingest inedible objects around the house, such as plaster from walls, sofa foam, and even broken glass from photo frames.
Why does this condition affects her eating habits?
Stacey's life has become a constant watch to ensure her daughter's safety, as Wynter's cravings can drive her to chew on anything within reach, including her high chair, cot, and even her blanket during the night. Stacey must remain vigilant at all times due to the severity of Wynter's pica.
Stacey expressed her concern, stating, ¡°She is literally eating the whole house. I bought a brand-new sofa and she¡¯s taken chunks out of it.¡±
The unusual eating patterns intensified as Wynter became non-verbal, prompting Stacey to seek assistance from healthcare professionals.
When was she diagnosed?
In January 2024, after undergoing additional tests, Wynter received her diagnosis of pica and autism. ¡°I put Wynter in the highchair with snacks, but she¡¯ll choose to eat the highchair.
Her autism really affects her sleep, and she wakes up quite a lot,¡± Stacey shared.
