In a shocking incident, a Subway employee was fatally shot and another was injured when a customer opened fire because there was too much mayonnaise on his sandwich.
The incident took place at a Subway in Atlanta, US, on Sunday, after the customer became angry over his order.
An argument over too much mayonnaise turns deadly
The customer allegedly became so angered over the amount of mayonnaise that was put on their sandwich that they got into a heated argument with the staff.
The argument quickly became deadly, when the customer took out a gun and shot two employees, the Associated Press reported.
One employee, a 26-year-old woman, was killed and the other, a 24-year-old woman, was injured, Atlanta police said.
"Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich. He decided to escalate the situation and from there ¨C that¡¯s when all hell broke loose," restaurant owner Willie Glenn, told WXIA-TV.
The manager on duty was able to return fire but didn¡¯t strike the gunman, Glenn added.
¡°It just breaks my heart, to know that someone has the audacity to point a weapon, and shoot someone for as little as too much mayonnaise on a sandwich,¡± Glenn said.
Police still searching for suspect
Police said they are still searching for the suspect and are reviewing surveillance footage to try to track him down.
"The suspect came inside the restaurant, ordered a sandwich, and there was something wrong with the sandwich that made him so upset that he decided to take out his anger on two of the employees here," Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton Jr. told reporters.
Hampton also said police arrested a 36-year-old Atlanta man thanks to a tip from someone in the community, but they aren¡¯t releasing the names of the victims or the suspect as this incident is still actively being investigated.
¡°(The shooter is) an individual with a gun who decided that that was the course of action to resolve a conflict. Yes, it¡¯s a sandwich, but more importantly, someone who failed to resolve a conflict by just walking away ¡ decided to take actions into his hands, and now we have families who are devastated, said Hampton during a press conference.
