Burglars Butt-Dial Police's Number While Attempting To Break In
Staffordshire Police Chief Inspector John Owen said officers were alerted on Wednesday night (6 January) to a break-in after the perpetrator mistakenly called police.
Not all professionals are good at what they do - especially not these two burglars. After a couple of suspects mistakenly 'butt-dialed' 999 during their supposed break-in, a cop says his unit has nabbed the 'world's unluckiest burglars'.
Staffordshire Police Chief Inspector, John Owen, said officers were alerted on Wednesday night (6 January) about a break-in, after the perpetrators mistakenly called the police.
CI Owen says that force members were able to sit and listen to their 'antics' - including hearing their own sirens come outside.
The cop compared the suspects to the Wet Bandits of Home Alone; he posted the tweet to his 2,900 fans with the news amusing users of social media and rapidly going viral.
CI Owen tweeted, ¡®I think we just arrested the world's unluckiest burglars. While committing a burglary, one of the bungling burglars accidentally sat on his phone and dialled 999. We received a call detailing all of their antics up to the point of hearing our patrols arrive and arrest them¡¯.
One user asked why the address would be revealed by the burglars, but another person pointed out that the call was possibly being traced by the police.
One person joked, '....and that concludes the case for the prosecution Your Honour...' while another said, 'Let's hope the courts give them more than a tickle on the wrists'.

A third pointed out, 'It's like a scene from Home Alone'.
Staffordshire Police confirmed two men have been arrested. A spokesperson said, "Officers responded to a suspicious phone call just before 9.10pm on Wednesday, January 6. Two men - aged 49 and 42 and both from Stoke-on-Trent - were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in custody."
Last year, a messy burglary attempt was caught on camera at a tobacco shop in California. The burglar fell through the ceiling of the place so hard, that he triggered the alarm and tried to make an exit in panic - all he could grab was one bag of tobacco and two energy drinks. The doors did not show any sign of a forced entry alright, but there was that big hole in the ceiling. The Sonora Police Department said the suspect and his accomplice made hole in the ceiling from a vacant building that was above the tobacco store.
The burglar was identified with the help of the CCTV footage - it was 40-year-old Storm Corral. Even though he, along with his partner managed to drill a hole in the ceiling, they could only access the back room.
When the alarm went off, the man tried to go back up through the ceiling but crashed on the floor instead.
