A strange Halloween d¨¦cor in a community in Utah has sparked a debate. It led to a discussion on freedom of speech, social norms, and cultural sensitivity, and it was the result of one homeowner's decision to exhibit a 'skeleton pole dancer' in their yard.

Christopher Fujishin, who lives in Grantsville, Utah, is the man who chose this unique Halloween display.

What Happened?

The Ogdenite, a local news source, uploaded an Instagram image from a homeowner of the Utah town who had a cheeky skeleton set up outside their house. The article said the city officials were not pleased with the resident's actions.

Two additional skeletons can be seen witnessing the humorous situation in the screenshot initially released by Grantsville City's official Facebook account but has since been taken down.

In their remark above the picture, Grantsville City wrote, "The person responsible for this display, you must take down your decorations by 9 p.m. tonight, October 18, or the city will remove them."

Why Did This Happen?

City officials said in a Facebook post that the display's use of the street sign as its dancing pole was against city ordinance.

The statement in the since-deleted post stated that the owner of the decorations had until nine o'clock at night to take them down, or they would be taken away.

After Fujishin relocated the skeletons to his yard, neighbours who had seen the city's widely shared post began to stop by and add their decorations to the exhibit, which is now complete with lights and music.

Fujishin told KSTU-TV, "We look forward to keeping this going and getting a little more elaborate as we go."

How Did Man Respond To The Reaction His Halloween Display Got?

In an interview with Fox 13 News Utah, Fujishin acknowledged that his Halloween arrangement might be a little "risqu¨¦" for some people but that it was "all in the name of fun."

The skeleton pole dance is considered improper for children, but the homeowner dismissed this criticism. "If your kids understand what that is, maybe the problem isn't the skeleton dancing on the pole; maybe it's something else," Fujishin stated.

Another video showed a neighbour repeatedly attempting to cut down the skeleton.

To stop more complaints, the owner took the skeleton down from the street sign after the city's notice was put up and moved the display to his lawn.
