Wasps have become a source of terror in Alabama, US as they are building ¡®supernests¡¯ in the state. It has been reported that scientists have issued a warning to locals about the perennial yellow jacket (wasp) nests.
According to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System some of these supernests are of the size of the car Volkswagen Beetle, and holds unto 15,000 wasps inside! As compared to the normal nest, this number is four times more.

But this is not the first time Alabama is being threatened by a large number of wasps. Similar kinds of nests were found by scientists in 2006. Back then, 90 such perennial nests were located and Charles Ray, an entomologist believes that something similar is going to be noticed in 2019.

Charles Ray informs that one of the factors that allows the wasps to create these supernests is a warm winter. Most wasps cannot survive the winters as they either freeze because of the cold or starve to death.

Charles Ray said, ¡°The queens are the only ones who have an antifreeze compound in their blood,¡± as quoted by Bored Panda. ¡°So normally, a surviving queen will have to start a colony from scratch in the spring. With our climate becoming warmer, there might be multiple surviving queens producing more than 20,000 eggs each.¡±

The dark reality is that, almost all the stinging related deaths in the US are caused by the yellow jackets. We know that a honey bee only stings once but a wasp can sting repeatedly and they are known to attack in large numbers. According to Charles, Alabama might see a large number of these super nests in 2019.
Charles Ray
¡°We confirmed two nests in May and have indications of a third. This puts us several weeks earlier than in 2006 when we identified the first giant nest on June 13,¡± he said as quoted by Bored Panda. ¡°If we are seeing them a month sooner than we did in 2006, I am very concerned that there will be a large number of them in the state. The nests I have seen this year already have more than 10,000 workers and are expanding rapidly.¡±

The images of these nests, forming on houses, inside cars, on bed mattresses are as horrifying as awe-inspiring. Some users on the Internet are finding these nests ¡®beautiful¡¯.

Well, it does seem beautiful in the pictures, but when one might find these nests growing inside their own homes, the emotions might be a tad bit different.
