The average African elephant will grow to between 2.5 to 4 meters from shoulder to toe and weigh between 2268 kg to 6350 kg, according to the National Geographic. Elephants also hold their ears out to the side during an attack to try and appear bigger and intimidate the opponent.
Not so long ago, something similar happened in Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, and the video of the same went viral earlier this month. The video showed a pair of motorcyclists who took a forest road near Kerala-Karnataka border, had a close brush with death after a tiger emerged from the woods and sprinted after them.

The two bikers took the precarious forest road at Muthanga forest range which is close to the Bandipur forest. The Bandipur forest connects Karnataka to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The road is also very close to Nagarhole National Park.
More recently, a mother pachyderm avenged the death of its little one by uprooting a transformer pole at an agriculture land in Tamil Nadu's Chittoor district. According to a report in The Hindu, the incident took place in a field of Gobbilla Kotur village adjoining the Koundinya wildlife sanctuary, in the wee hours of Sunday. The report states that the mother and calf strayed into the area inhabited by humans and that's where they encountered the fateful live wire.
The calf died instantly after being electrocuted. The mother elephant, with all her might, tried to lift her baby¡¯s carcass off the ground, but to no avail. By then, curious villagers and forest officials had thronged the site which forced the pachyderm to disappear into the forest, leaving her dead calf all alone.

By Sunday evening, The Hindu reports states that, the forest range officials took the elephant calf¡¯s body for post-mortem and buried it with a traditional puja.
