You Season 5 officially landed on Netflix on Friday, April 24, 2025, with all episodes released at once for a full-on binge. The final episode, fittingly titled Finale, runs just under an hour, and it¡¯s packed with confrontations as Joe Goldberg faces the consequences of his actions.

So what actually happens to Joe in the end? Let's dive in.

In the final season, Joe tries to escape to Canada with his wife, Kate. He somehow survives a fire in the basement of his bookstore and thinks he's getting a fresh start.

But Kate, who's as shady as Joe if not more, has been working with Marienne and Nadia, two people who know just how dangerous Joe really is. Together, they come up with a plan to trap him in the same glass cage he once used on others.

Bront? turns against Joe

The trio didn¡¯t stop at setting a trap. They also managed to turn Joe¡¯s newest obsession, Bront?, against him. Bront? had a feeling something was off, and after learning more about the death of her mentor, Guinevere Beck, things started to make sense. Finding out the truth about Beck, who was killed back in season one, changed everything for her.

After saving Joe from the fire, Bront? decided to act like she was on his side. She even agreed to his proposal. But in her mind, she had already made a decision.

They ran off to a cabin in upstate New York, hiding out in the middle of nowhere. At one point, Bront? seemed almost caught up in Joe¡¯s charm. During a boat ride, she called it ¡°peak romance.¡± But it didn¡¯t last. She kept her focus. She knew who Joe really was, and the calm moment was never going to be the end of the story.

Does Joe's son Henry learn the truth about his father?

Later that night, Bront? made her move. While lying in bed with Joe, she reached under the pillow and pulled out a gun. Calm but firm, she made him tell the truth about what really happened to Guinevere Beck. She also made him delete the parts of the book he had written about her, trying to twist her story for his own gain.

Right in the middle of that tense moment, Joe¡¯s phone rang. It was his son, Henry. While talking to his son on the phone, Joe tried to sound calm. He told him he¡¯d be back in a few days, trying to reassure him like everything was fine. But Henry asks, ¡°What did you do to Mommy?¡±

Joe hesitated. ¡°Nothing,¡± he said softly, but the damage was already done.

Henry responds, ¡°Do you remember when you used to tell me there were no monsters in my room? You lied. It was you. You¡¯re the monster.¡±

For the first time, Joe had to hear who he really was, and coming from the person he cared about most shattered his world.

Did Joe kill his final muse, Bront??

At one point, it actually seemed like Joe was ready to come clean. He looked broken, like he¡¯d finally accepted everything he¡¯d done. But then, in classic Joe fashion, he snapped. Things got violent fast. He shot Bront? in the side during a fight in the woods.

Even while bleeding out, Bront? didn¡¯t give up. Her hands were shaky and covered in blood, but she somehow managed to call 911. The police were already on their way.

Joe begged her to end it. ¡°Kill me,¡± he said. ¡°I deserve it. You should be the one who does it.¡± But Bront? wasn¡¯t going to give him that easy way out. ¡°I¡¯d rather watch you rot in prison,¡± she told him.

Still, he came at her again. That¡¯s when she shot him right in the groin.

What happens to Joe in the end?

Joe gets arrested along with Bront?. He then faces a trial during which he was forced to confront his own darkness. "My punishment is worse than I imagined," Joe reflects.

What happens to Kate and Joe's son Henry?

Joe's son Henry is now in his wife Kate Lockwood's care after she survived the bookstore fire. She also decides to support Marienne's artistic pursuits. Meanwhile, her brother Teddy turned Lockwood Corp into a nonprofit organisation, marking a significant shift for the company.

The series concludes with Joe in prison, reading Norman Mailer's The Executioner's Song. In a haunting voiceover, he reflects on the crushing loneliness of his situation, remarking, "The loneliness, oh my god. The loneliness... This is forever. It's unfair. Aren't we all just products of our environment? Hurt people hurt people."

As he reads a fan's letter, Joe's tone shifts, and he writes, "Maybe we have a problem as a society. Maybe the problem isn¡¯t me. Maybe it¡¯s you."
