Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have been friends since several decades. The two billionaires, who are also often seeing playing golf together, have already pledged to donate nearly their entire fortune.
And its not once but multiple times that the Microsoft co-founder has heaped praise on his friend Warren Buffett, and shared the lessons he learnt from him. But what can be the best advice that Bill Gates has received from the 92-year-old billionaire?
He himself had once shared that there is one advice from Warren Buffett that Bill Gates has consistently put at the top of that list.
Bill Gates Shares Warren Buffett's Best Advice
¡°Of all the things I¡¯ve learned from Warren (Buffett), the most important thing might be what friendship is all about,¡± Bill Gates had once written in his blog post.
¡°Even though he keeps up a hectic schedule, Warren still finds time to nurture friendships like few other people I know,¡± Gates added, as per Forbes report. ¡°He picks up the phone and calls to say hello. He regularly sends articles he¡¯s read that he thinks ... I will find interesting.¡±
Despite being one of the world's most successful and admired billionaires, and heading Berkshire Hathaway since over five decades, Warren Buffett¡¯s emphasis on friendship has been evident on many occasions.
Why Warren Buffett Emphasizes On Friendships
Buffet often speaks about the importance of choosing good friends, and being a good friend yourself. That means surrounding yourself ¡°with people that are better than yourself,¡± so you can learn from and be inspired by them, he said at a 2017 talk with Gates at Columbia University. ¡°You will move in the direction of the people that you associate with.¡±
Bill Gates agreed: ¡°Some friends do bring out the best in you, and so it¡¯s good to invest in those friendships.¡±
In 2004 Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting, a 14-year old had asked Buffett what advice he would give to young people. Buffett didn¡¯t hesitate and said, ¡°It¡¯s better to hang out with people better than you.¡±
¡°Look at the people you like to associate with. What qualities do they have that you can have if you want to? Look at the people you can¡¯t stand to be around. What qualities do they have? Can you get rid of those qualities? It¡¯s not very complicated¡±, Buffett said, as per the report.
In 2007, Buffett had mentioned that spending time with people who are ¡®better than you,¡¯ means finding people you who admire; peers, associates, co-workers or leaders you can look up to as role models.
According to Buffett, ¡°Choosing your heroes is very important because you are going to gravitate toward the behaviour of those around you. Associate with people who are better than you are. It will do wonders for you.¡±

"When You Get To My Age.."
¡°When you get to my age, you¡¯ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you,¡± Buffett said in a 2001 speech at the University of Georgia, as per CNBC report.
¡°I know people who have a lot of money, and they get testimonial dinners and hospital wings named after them,¡± he continued. ¡°But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them. If you get to my age in life and nobody thinks well of you, I don¡¯t care how big your bank account is ¡ª your life is a disaster. That¡¯s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life.¡±
