This term was initially introduced in 1920 by Milton Sirotta, the 9-year-old nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, who extensively mentioned the concept in his 1940 book "Mathematics and the Imagination." Sirotta felt that a number of such immense magnitude warranted a correspondingly whimsical and memorable name, encapsulating the notion of boundless vastness and infinity.

Before adopting its current name, the search engine operated under the moniker "Backrub." A statement from Google reveals: "The Google story commences in 1995 at Stanford University. Larry Page was contemplating Stanford for graduate school, and Sergey Brin, then a student there, was tasked with showing him around."

"By some accounts, they disagreed about nearly everything during that first meeting, but by the following year, they struck a partnership. Working from their dorm rooms, they built a search engine that used links to determine the importance of individual pages on the World Wide Web. They called this search engine Backrub. Soon after, Backrub was renamed Google (phew)."

Nevertheless, certain internet users contend that Google stands for 'Global Organization of Oriented Group Language of Earth.' However, this theory is widely dismissed as false due to the absence of evidence supporting it.

A Quora post that resurfaced recently has ignited curiosity regarding whether "Google" is an acronym, prompting the emergence of various theories on the topic.

As per a Quora user - "The name was chosen to signify the vast amount of information that the search engine can access. It is not an acronym formed from the initials of words."

Another user said, "Google doesn't have any full form [but] many in the world assume and say Google stands for 'Global Organization of Oriented Language Experts'."

The name "Google" arose during a brainstorming session by the company's founders, Brin and Page. Initially, they aimed to christen their venture "Googol." However, while checking domain availability, a friend inadvertently misspelled it as ¡°Google.¡± Page found himself drawn to this inadvertent alteration, ultimately giving rise to the inception of Google Inc.
