Mumbai-based company founder implements Rs 200 fine for late arrival of employees, divides internet
Are you someone who strictly follows rules, or have you become more relaxed in response to changing times? Punctuality is valued as a noble virtue. In an attempt to promote it and improve productivity, the founder of a company based in Mumbai recently implemented a new rule.
Are you someone who strictly follows rules, or have you become more relaxed in response to changing times? Punctuality is valued as a noble virtue. In an attempt to promote it and improve productivity, the founder of a company based in Mumbai recently implemented a new rule.
Kaushal Shah, the founder of Evor Beauty, implemented a new policy requiring employees to arrive at the office by 9:30 am. Those who failed to comply faced a fine of Rs 200 for tardiness. However, the initiative backfired when Shah himself incurred Rs 1,000 in fines for being late.
This rule backfired on him as he ended up paying Rs 1000 fine
Shah took to X to share this. He posted, "Last week, to increase productivity in the office, I made a strict rule for everyone to be in the office by 9:30 am (earlier we used to come by 10-11) and if we're late, we pay ?200 as a penalty."
"This is me paying it for the 5th time," he added, along with a screenshot of his Rs 200 transaction as evidence.

The new policy aimed at fostering punctuality among employees mandates that fines collected are designated for team activities and benefits, such as dining and other events.¡±The money will be used solely for team activities and benefits," Shah told Hindustan Times.
While some praised him for his leadership, others called it toxic work culture
Shah's open acknowledgment entertained many on social media, where users applauded him for holding himself to the same standards as his employees.
"Appreciate your honesty and the contribution. Always lead by example," one user wrote.
Another one commented, "Leadership by example!"
Some, however, raised concerns about where the fines would go and labeled the system as fostering a "toxic work culture."
"Paid to self," quipped one commenter.
Another said, "Paying to whom? Your current account?"
"This is horrible. Didn't expect this from you. Bro to save the Rs 200 someone can rush. What if they get into an accident or something? Don't play with low earning people," a third user questioned.

After backlash, Shah posted a clarification because he felt that his intention got misunderstood
In response to these concerns, Shah clarified in a follow-up post and wrote, ¡°It seems my intention behind this post was misunderstood. I shared that tweet to emphasize an important principle for founders and leaders: if you establish a rule for your employees, you must be the first to follow it. As for the concern about paying the penalty to my own UPI wallet, please note that I have created a separate UPI Lite account specifically as a team fund.
The money collected is used solely for team activities and benefits, such as dining and other team events. I appreciate the feedback and hope this clarifies my intentions.¡±

Even on his follow-up post, the internet had questions.
One user asked, ¡°Does all employees having same salary as you have? Make it to 0.2% fine of in hand salary for late comers & 0.2% reward for every extra hour they work. 0.2%. Looks small but its very effective when you calculate with your in hand package.
Another one hoped that the employees get to leave on time as well, if such a rule is put in place - I¡± hope the employees leaves office on time if they are coming on time. A good work life balance is also more important when you set a strict regulations¡±
