Gautam Adani To Start Redevelopment Of Dharavi From March 18
Adani group will begin mapping and start redevelopment of Mumbai¡¯s Dharavi from March 18.
Under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt. initiative, a joint venture between the Maharashtra state government and Adani, the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate will gather data from hundreds of thousands of Dharavi residents to determine their rehabilitation needs, the company shared in a statement on Monday. The survey will start in the Kamla Raman Nagar area and involve assigning each home a unique number before performing a "Lidar Survey," or laser mapping of the corresponding lane.
Why The Billionaire Is Making Efforts Towards Dharavi?
According to a Bloomberg report, a joint venture spokesperson stated that the survey will initiate Adani's efforts to make India's financial capital slum free. It will use laser mapping technology to create the first digital map of a large informal settlement.
Due to the slum's appeal as a travel destination and setting for several movies, including 2008's Slumdog Millionaire, billionaire Gautam Adani's proposal to renovate Dharavi has drawn a lot of attention. The renovation has been discussed for decades with little progress, and the tycoon must overcome significant political opposition as well as legal obstacles to finish the project.

In an effort to appease locals and head off any potential protests or disturbances, Gautam Adani had stated in January 2024 that it would provide homes to Dharavi residents in Mumbai that are 17% larger than in prior proposals. Redeveloping Dharavi, where 80 people share a toilet and eight people occasionally live in a 100-square-foot shanties, will put Adani's project management skills to the test.
To redevelop Dharavi, Adani Group will collaborate with US design firm Sasaki, UK-based consultancy firm Buro Happold, and Indian architect Hafeez Contractor.
