Japanese Billionaire Hiroshi Mikitani Donates ?1 Billion To War Hit Ukraine
Japanese Billionaire Hiroshi ¡°Mickey¡¯ Mikitani has announced a donation of ?1 Billion (approximately $8.7 million) to the government of war hit Ukraine.
In a noble act towards doing his bit for a war-hit country, Japanese Billionaire Hiroshi ¡°Mickey¡¯ Mikitani recently said that he will donate ?1 Billion to the government of Ukraine.
As per a report in JapanTimes, the billionaire called Russia¡¯s invasion a ¡°challenge to democracy¡±.

Letter To Ukraine President
E-commerce giant Rakuten Group Inc's founder Hiroshi Mikitani said in a letter addressed to Ukraine¡¯s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the donation of ?1 billion (approximately $8.7 million) will go towards humanitarian activities to help the people of Ukraine who are victims of violence.
The billionaire also said that he had visited Ukraine capital Kyiv in 2019, and had met Zelenskyy.
In his letter, he further said that my thoughts are with you (President Zelenskyy) and the Ukraine people.
Hiroshi wrote ¡°I believe that the trampling of a peaceful and democratic Ukraine by unjustified force is a challenge to democracy. I sincerely hope that Russia and Ukraine can resolve this issue peacefully and that Ukraine people can have peace again as soon as possible.¡±
Sanctions Against Russia
The Japanese government has announced sanctions on Russian capital Moscow, including freezing assets and banning key exports such as semiconductors to organizations related to the Russian military.
Also, other major democracies like the UK, USA, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Australia etc have already announced broad financial sanctions against Russia, such as freezing Russian bank assets, banning Russian airlines from flying over their country and shutting Russia out of international payment system SWIFT.
All these steps are being taken to demonstrate their stance against Russia's Ukraine invasion and declaration of war, which has already killed hundreds of civilians and soldiers.
