The corporate world often brings some interesting stories to the forefront. Recently, a CEO of an Indian startup revealed how he was forced to not hire a ¡®really good candidate¡¯ because of high salary expectations.
Gaurav Kheterpal, the founder and CEO of Vanshiv Technologies, recounted his encounter on the social media platform X, where he detailed his interaction with the company's human resources team.
Kheterpal mentioned encountering a "highly promising candidate" and instructed HR to move forward with her application. However, upon learning of her salary expectations, the CEO was surprised - and amused.
He elaborated that the candidate, with four years of experience, anticipated an annual salary of Rs 45 lakh, which was a significant increase of Rs 17 lakh from her current salary of Rs 28 lakh per annum.
The Candidate Was Expecting Rs 45 LPA In Lieu Of Her Four Years Of Experience
¡°Read it again - this is 4 Years Experience. All you can do -pass it off with a bit of humour,¡± wrote Kheterpal.
During his conversation with HR, he humorously remarked that he might have to consider taking out a loan just to afford hiring the candidate. ¡°We¡¯ll have to apply for a loan to hire her. Let¡¯s skip,¡± he wrote. The CEO shared a screenshot of the conversation on X.
That moment when you come across a really good candidate. You ask HR to screen the candidate & they report the numbers

Opinions among his followers were split. Some concurred that requesting Rs 45 LPA for only four years of experience seemed excessive, while others argued that salary should not be solely determined by experience, but also by one's capabilities.
¡°IMHO, experience can not be the only deciding criteria for one's salary. If you think the person can deliver what's expected of him/her and you've the budget for it, it's definitely worth giving a shot,¡± wrote one X user, to which Kheterpal replied: ¡°Good point, but that logic works well for product companies with a fat purse and investor funding, not so much for small bootstrapped consulting and services companies like ours.¡±
The CEO¡¯s Salary When He Had Four Years Of Work ex Was A Measly Rs 6.5 LPA
Kheterpal further disclosed that his own salary when he had four years of experience amounted to Rs 6.5 LPA. Additionally, many advocated for companies to disclose the salary range when posting job vacancies to streamline the hiring process for both hiring managers and candidates.
