Shark Tank India's judge Anupam Mittal, who is the multimillionaire founder-CEO of People Group and Shaadi.com, recently shared his journey, recalling his early days when he was jobless in the US. Fast forward to today, Anupam Mittal has a net worth of Rs 185 crore.
Shark Tank India's Anupam Mittal Recalls His Early Days
Born on 23 December 1971 in Mumbai, Anupam Mittal recently recalled that he was one of 20 kids raised in a small 1000-square-foot Mumbai apartment prior to his role as a judge on Shark Tank India. In a podcast, he revealed that although his father's wealth came from the textile industry, the family wasn't always wealthy, as per a moneycontrol report.
¡°We wouldn¡¯t realise it as kids, but 20 of us were living in a 1,000-square foot house at the time. People were sleeping on the dining table, under the dining table. But as kids, you don¡¯t think of that. You enjoy having so many kids around,¡± Mittal said.
Hunger Taught Him A Number Of Lessons
As his father's business soon began to flourish, Anupam Mittal left to study at Boston College in the United States, but he had some "terrible experiences" trying to get a job in the IT industry. According to Mittal, he shared 800 resumes. He was also unable to ask his parents for assistance because they would have simply called him back home, despite the fact that he had no money. His parents would ask, "Where's your salary?" if I asked them for money. Mittal was penniless. It was hunger, something he had never felt before.
The Shark Tank India judge revealed that although there were occasions when he would go two or three days without eating, hunger taught him many valuable lessons. "Everyone should experience hunger at least once in their lives because it teaches you a lot of valuable lessons. I once went two or three days without eating because I was unable to eat. For what length of time could friends provide assistance? They would have been helpful, but eventually you start to feel horrible too. Everything is done and credit cards are fully utilized. Although I wasn't living on the streets, I did feel as though there weren't enough resources available to me," he remarked.
The Job That Turned Around Anupam Mittal's Days
After a while, Mittal got a job at MicroStrategy where he liked it and they gave him stock options. Thanks to the dot com boom, the company's valuation increased from $100 million to $40 billion in just three years. "I had joined as a sales consultant but very quickly I rose through ranks to become the director of strategic partnerships so I had a lot of stock options and had become a multi-millionaire in my early twenties," he stated. "I had never imagined it to be so crazy. We used to have corporate parties on cruise ships, and we used to party in stadiums. I had ordered a sports car. It was extremely high caliber.
At present, Anupam Mittal is the founder and CEO of People group and Shaadi.com. Shaadi.com was started as Sagaai.com in 1997, but then later in 199 its named changed. Mittal has been a judge on Shark Tank India's all seasons, and has a net worth of Rs 185 crore.
