Mahindra has been testing the next-generation Thar on Indian roads since long. Unfortunately for the test vehicle, it has been involved in a crash already, as it collided with a Maruti Omni on the roads of Himachal Pradesh.
Images of the crash that have surfaced show that the two cars have collided head on and suffered heavy damages. A look at the Mahindra Thar 2020 and we can see that the driver¡¯s side has been completely wrecked by the crash at the front. Even the wheel of that side has been destroyed, indicating a major crash between the two.
Naturally, in such a crash, the Omni can be expected to be more damaged than the Thar. Another image of the collision confirms the same, as the entire driver¡¯s side of the Omni has been wrecked completely. In addition, the car¡¯s windshield as well as most of the windows have been shattered by the crash as the Omni rolled over to one side, as can be seen in the image below.
For now, there is a limited information available on the accident and hence, the reason for the collision cannot be pin-pointed. Was it any of the drivers¡¯ fault? Was it a malfunction on the Mahindra Thar 2020 test mule or that on the Omni for that matter, only subsequent reports can tell.
What we know for now is that Mahindra is set to unveil the next-gen Thar soon in a BS-VI configuration. The new-gen model will come with an enhanced design that will lean more towards a sophisticated look rather than the rugged stance of the vehicle.
Mahindra will also be improving the interiors of the car for the same reason. In terms of performance though, the new model is expected to deliver the same drive capabilities as the existing model.
