October last year, Bajaj unveiled its first ever electric scooter under its new Urbanite brand. In order to re-introduce the legacy of the brand in the electric mobility segment, the scooter was named Chetak and had a retro-inspired design with all the latest bells and whistles. Post the showcase, the company has now finally started retailing the electric two-wheeler at a starting price of?Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
At this price, the electric scooter from the house of Bajaj will compete with the likes of Ather 450 and others. To check out a comparison of their specifications, click here. For a complete list of electric scooters in India,?click here.
As for what¡¯s on offer with the electric Chetak, the green two-wheeler promises a range of 95 km on a single charge of its 3 kWh IP67 lithium-ion battery. That is on the Eco mode. On the Sport mode, the same range can be expected to drop to around 85 km.
Surprisingly, the battery also misses out on fast charging and can only juice to full in 5 hours of charging. A single hour of charging can promise about 25 percent of the total battery capacity, i.e. slightly more than 20 km on one hour of charging. The company promises a battery life of 70,000 km.
The electric Chetak will be powered by a 4 kW electric motor that is able to produce 16 Nm of peak torque. Top speed of the electric scooter has not been mentioned by the company as of now.
It is easy to see that Bajaj has focused on the design and make of the Chetak electric. With the retro-design sporting modular curves on the front and the rear and a horse-shoe shaped LED headlamp and daytime running light donned at the top, the electric scooter manages to retain the original essence of Chetak in a never-seen-before look.
Bajaj claims to have used an all metal build for the Chetak electric, possibly making it the first of such kind in the electric scooters category in India. As highlights, the Chetak electric can be seen sporting satin chrome bezels around the headlight to up the premium ante.
To be serviced at the existing Bajaj service centres, the Chetak electric will come with a warranty of 3 years or 50,000 km, whichever happens first. Additionally, Bajaj promises three free services for the e-scooter. Initially, the electric scooter will retail in 4 dealerships in Pune and 13 dealerships in Bengaluru. Bookings for it will commence from noon January 15.
Bajaj Chetak electric will be available in six colour options and two variants - Urbane and Premium, both priced at?Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
