Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at a pickup truck to be rolled off its production lines. How? When? What will it look like? These are just some of the questions that no one has an answer to as yet. And make no mistake, there is a huge market anxiously anticipating such a vehicle's launch. But what do you do when what you want isn't available? You make your own, says YouTuber Simone Giertz.
In a video, Simone is seen challenging Elon Musk to create the world's first Tesla pickup truck. The reason for this is apparently the same as above, she couldn't wait for Tesla to launch its pickup truck and decided to take matters into her own hands. So what does she do? She buys a brand new Tesla Model 3 standard variant for the process. As Simone explains it, this was the cheapest option in the market as Tesla has recently come up with the option and has priced it at an all time low. Another reason to go for the Model 3 is that it comes with a steel chassis, that is easier to fabricate than the aluminium one found on the Model S and Model X.?
Still, a brand new Tesla must have cost her $29,350 (~Rs 20 lakh) at the least, as per the prices mentioned on the company's website. Understandably, Simone can be seen having second thoughts about buying the vehicle for the project. That amount, for a brand new Tesla, that you are going to tear apart. Who would not?

Still, she buys the vehicle and proceeds with the project. She also calls in fellow enthusiasts for the project. Once everything is set, the car enters the shop for the modification.
How they did it
Technically, the process followed was very straightforward. The plan was to cut up the roof of the car and make a truck bed in its place. For this, the rear doors of the car would have to go. The team starts by removing the top glass and then proceeding to remove the doors. Once this is done, the chassis is cut up at the required places and then welded with reinforcements for maintaining the structural rigidity of the car. A glass window is then fixed at the back of the car, followed by a flat bed. A few bolts here, a few paint brushes there and voila! the Truckla is ready!?

DIY videos have been garnering huge attention online and enthusiasts like Simone Giertz inspire masses to think outside the box. The interesting part, however, is the process than the end product, as those watching such content get to learn a thing or two. Whether the end product is of their like or not, is a different thing altogether. After all, it can always be customised to suit one's own needs, right? So how about a Tesla Submarine next? Who's up for that?
