Following its focus on an all electric variant on the Nexon compact SUV, Tata Motors has now launched its Altroz hatchback in India at a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Available in five variants across petrol and diesel engines, the Altroz will mark another offering by Tata Motors that is BS6 compliant.
To recall, the Altroz had secured a perfect 5-star rating in a recently held crash test by Global NCAP, making it only the second made-in-India car to do so. That is also the reason why Tata Motors is marketing the car as ¡®India¡¯s safest car¡¯. Though this is not entirely true as Mahindra XUV300 only recently beat it to the spot with the highest combined score in the Global NCAP test.
Regardless, the Altroz comes as the first vehicle to use Tata Motors¡¯ ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. As for its performance, the hatchback is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 86 hp and 113 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is able to produce 90 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Both of these come with a five-speed manual transmission. Tata Motors might also aim for a dual clutch automatic gearbox on the car later.
Tata Altroz will be available in five following trims - XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ (O) options. Here are there prices as per the petrol or diesel engine:
-- Tata Altroz 1.2-litre Revotron XE - Rs 5.29 lakh
