Volkswagen is ready to roll out its "first edition" ID.3 electric car to its showrooms in most of the European countries. The much awaited Volkswagen electric car ID.3 from the auto major will go on sale for under 40,000 euros (~Rs 34 lakh) next week. The company has further confirmed that the deliveries of the ID.3 will start from September.
After a delay from an earlier predicted roll out around mid-2020, the company confirmed the car¡¯s availability through a recent blog post. VW had first started taking 1,000 euro (~Rs 86,000) deposits for the car in Europe back in May last year. Since then, the electric car has faced delays for reasons not mentioned by the company.
A year on, the company is set to take ¡°binding orders¡± for the limited 1st Edition of the ID.3 from June 17 in most European countries. Only 30,000 models of the car will be produced for its 1st Edition.
With its launch price of just under 40,000 euros, ID.3 will be eligible for up to 9,000 euros in electric car incentives. The incentives are higher than before thanks to Germany¡¯s recent stimulus package to its automobile sector to boost car sales in the country, especially focussing on the promotion of electric vehicles through such incentives.
With an entire ID series on the lineup, Volkswagen unveiled the ID.3 as the first in the lot. Based on Volkswagen¡¯s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), the ID.3 will come in three available battery sizes.
The 1st edition of the ID.3 is the mid-sized version of the three iterations. With this make, Volkswagen is also offering ¡°up to 2,000 kWh of electricity for one year following the day of the vehicle¡¯s initial registration.¡±
With a 58 kWh battery capacity and a 150-kW electric motor, the Volkswagen ID.3 claims a top speed of 160 kmph and an impressive range of 420 kilometres (WLTP). Other two variants will carry a battery capacity of 45-kWh and 77-kWh, with corresponding range of 330 kilometres and 550 kilometres respectively.
The ID.3 marks the first of the company¡¯s extensive pursuit to rebrand itself as a green vehicle manufacturer. With a capability to produce up to 50 million electric vehicles over the years through its newly built electric car facility, the Volkswagen brand is planning to offer electric vehicles in all of the main vehicle segments by 2022.
Volkswagen ID Crozz Electric SUV is another one in the lineup.?The zero-emission SUV with an electric 4MOTION four-wheel-drive powertrain promises a top speed of 180 km/h, a power output of 225 kW and a range of up to 500 km (NEDC) with one battery charge.
