Gorilla Kisses Her Newborn Baby As Soon As It's Born, Proves Moms Are Same Across Species

There is no bigger joy in a mother's life than to see her baby being born. And mothers across species stay true to this emotion. They are all alike when it comes to their babies - protective and nurturing.

A beautiful moment was captured on camera in Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in the US, showing a mother gorilla kissing her newborn as soon as it was born.

Calaya, a first-time mom, gave birth to a baby boy Moke at 6:25 pm on Monday. According to the zoo, Moke means "junior" or "little one" in the Lingala language.

What's also amazing to note here is that the Westland lowland gorilla is a listed endangered breed due to the incidents of disease and poaching. Moke is the first gorilla infant to be born at the zoo in nine years.?

It's almost as if the mom knew how important this birth was for its species!

The zoo put up a video on Facebook, welcoming Moke and garnering 3.4 million views. The caption for the same read,?

“Welcome, little one! Primate keepers are happy to report that Calaya has been caring for her infant and are optimistic he will thrive.”

Calaya's gesture of kissing her newborn warmed many hearts. One user did, however, point out a more practical reason behind the kiss and said, “Awesome! Would I be right in assuming the mommy is clearing the babies nose and thought of mucus and such?”
