Before Kapil Sharma became a household name, these classic comedy shows from the '90s entertained us way better than anything else in today's age. These shows will always hold a special place in our hearts. How many of these shows do you remember??
1. Tu Tu Main Main
Saas Bahu sagas these days are boring and overrated. The show that gave the drama that unfolds in every household a funny twist was Tu Tu Main Main. Starring Supriya Pilgaonkar, Reema Lagoo and Mahesh Thakur, the show went on to become a hit. It was nothing short of a laughter riot.
2. Shriman Shrimati
Shrimaan Shrimati was one of the finest comedy shows ever made. So much so, that an attempt was made to remake this show. However, as they say, the classics shall never be touched. The remake didn't gain as much popularity as the original one.?
This show starring Reema Lagoo, Rakesh Bedi and Jatin Kanakia was based on the concept of a lover hitting on neighbour's wife. Every character in the show was sketched brilliantly.
3. Yes Boss
Way before Aasif Sheikh won us over with his antics in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, he stole our hearts with his epic one-liners and witty jokes in Yes Boss.?The show revolved around a wife trying to deal with a flirtatious boss and husband who works at the same place.
4. Family No. 1?
"Ghar hai ek, deewane do... Jo hoga ho jaane do, ho jaane do...?Kaun banega inme se, family no 1"??The title song is still etched in our hearts, isn't it?
If you take a trip down the memory lane, you would realise this show was quite progressive to show two single parents living in the same house that had a LOC separating their spaces. To see the constant fights and bickering between their kids was a laughter riot.
5. Hasna Mat?
The king of comedy Kader Khan made us laugh our hearts out in Hasna Mat. It was Khan's one of the first ever television appearances and indeed the best one. In the show, he assumed a new character in every episode, acquire a new wife and leave us in fits of giggles.
6. Zabaan Sambhal Ke??
Did you know Zabaan Sambhalke was a remake of British show Mind Your Language? The show starred Pankaj Kapur as an engineer who had to teach Hindi at a school that had students from all corners of the world.?
7. Hudd Kar Di?
Remember this show starring Dara Singh and Rita Bhaduri as adorable grandparents? This one was about a happy Indian family living in the city. When their parents from village arrive, a lot of comical events take place as they try to settle in. The show had hit the chord with masses when it had released.
8. Filmi Chakkar
Before their chemistry won our hearts in Sarabhai VS Sarabhai, Satish Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah played a couple and wooed us in Filmi Chakkar. The show was based on a family that was crazy about cinema and movies.
Fun Fact: The show was initially directed by Rajeev Khandelwal before Ashoke Pandit took over.
9. Ji MantriJi
Ji MantriJi was an Indian adaptation of British satirical sitcom Yes Minister.?The show starred Farooq Sheikh as Minister of Administrative Affairs Surya Prakash Singh and Jayant Kripalani as the department's secretary. The show was not only intelligent but it was uproariously hilarious too.
10. Dekh Bhai Dekh
If there was show that portrayed the dynamics of a joint family and the comedy that ensues in it perfectly, it was Dekh Bhai Dekh. Starring Sushma Seth, Shekhar Suman and Deven Bhojani among other cast, the show was simply hilarious. It was mix of comedy, drama, love and other emotions.
11. Hum Paanch
Maine produce kiya hai... Yeh mera hai production. Ab mein karwa deta hun... Inn sabka introduction. Yeh number one, yeh number two, yeh number three, yeh number chaar, yeh number paanch... Hum paanch... pum-pum-paanch.?
?Who doesn't remember this? These lines itself make you nostalgic, right!?
The show was about a middle class family taking a dig at each other at every occasion. Every character was unique and interesting at the same time.
12. Flop Show
This show was popular when satirical comedy wasn't popular in India. This is from an era when jokes were seen as jokes and people wouldn't get offended. The show took a dig at various social issues prevalent in those days.??
13. Shrimati Sharma Na Kehti Thi?
This show brought an interesting concept to small screens. Mrs Sharma (Bharti Acharekar) was the only character in the show that had face, other characters, including her husband and milk man who she would often talk to, only had voices, yet this show about a middle class woman that showcased her love of films was a rage at the time it had released.
